Alice Zawadzki is a vocalist, violinist and composer, and her work has seen her gain considerable repute as a distinctive presence on the European scene. Her debut album China Lane (Whirlwind Recordings) was released to widespread critical acclaim in 2014, and is a convergence of her early exposure to jazz and gospel, a classical training, and her continuous exploration of folk and improvised music. She has been a soloist with the Tokyo, Kansai, Kaohsiung, Prague, Moscow and St Petersburg Philharmonic orchestras, toured worldwide and played her own music at most of the major UK jazz and alternative music festivals and venues. She was nominated for British Jazz Vocalist of the year by both Jazz FM and the Parliamentary Jazz Awards after the release of China Lane. She studied at the Royal Academy of Music (jazz voice and composition) and previously at the Royal Northern College of Music (violin). For the last ten years she has dedicated significant time and energy to UK-wide outreach projects, notably with the charity Live Music Now, bringing live performance and workshops to those who would otherwise have limited opportunity and access. She worked as a general volunteer and advocate in the Calais Jungle since early 2016 and continues to be actively involved in supporting it's former residents. She is delighted to be working with Play for Progress.
